easiest possibility, I do it directly from the AUTOEXEC.BAT of my
workstations:
xcopy c:\*.* j:\backup\workst1 /s /m
This copies all files with the attribute bit set (i.e. everything changed
since last boot) from all directories of drive C: to the file server, with
the directory structure intact.
If you have several hard disks, you can do that, too. But do not it from one
partition of a drive to another: If the drive dies, you cannot access any of
its partitions.
pkzip -rp wi960917 c:\windows\*.*
This compresses my complete Windows installation. It is a good idea to
incorporate the date into the file name. Again: Use a different drive as a
target.
BTW: Why do you dislike tape drives? They got VERY cheap recently. A
QIC80/Travan 1 drive should cost some US-$ 150. Add about the same amount for
a few cardridges. But they are SLOOOOW, including verify hardly more than 2
MB/min.
