Pat Ewy asked about changing a style that affects a lot of in-progress
documents.

"There is no perfect document" - and that includes style guides. I've
never worked in a place where the styles _didn't_ change, either
because the product or service evolved or from a recognition that last
year's New! Improved! is this year's <boooring...>. So step one is to make
it clear that you _assume_ styles will change, and the only question is
when, what, and how.

If you have a corporate style guide, announce the next revision is coming
out in one month, and solicit requests, suggestions, and comments. If you
don't, then make one. In either case, lose the italics. And if it's a brick wall
and they absolutely won't give up the italics, sigh profoundly, shake your
head in disbelief, and mutter gently under your breath as you slowly
walk away.

Good luck!
