I had to train myself not to type 2 spaces after a period or other
sentence-ending mark 10 years ago. I didn't *fight* it because I knew it
would be simpler to fix multiple spaces to one space globally, and two
spaces after a sentence don't do diddley squat for me so far as
readability goes. I wonder if any of these two-space proponents refuse
to read or can't comprehend their daily newspapers or the TV Guide
because there isn't extra space after a sentence? Plus, since I've been
formatting documents for 18 years, I prefer optimizing space when using
smaller point sizes and tighter-kerned typefaces, such as Times New
Roman. What really drives me nuts these days are the folks who don't
change the tabs sets from every half inch when using TNR 12 pt. or
smaller. Talk about huge gaps! I find an optimum tab spacing in TNR to
be .3 inch for 12 pt. and .2 inch for 10-11 pt.
