Just a guess here, but 32K colors means you only get 5 bits per color
instead of 8 (assuming the colors get equally many bits -- not necessarily
the best match with human perception).
The value 128 = 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 in 8-bit binary, and I can imagine a
plausible mapping from 8-bit to 5-bit that maps that to 0 0 0 0 0.
Assuming that zero maps to zero, you'd have (0, 128, 0) --> (0, 0, 0) = black.
