Carla, List,

Boy, must not be the same FrameMaker I'm using... because we've found that unless
you're using Word as just a text editor (ie: no styles, bookmarks, footnotes, tables, frames,
graphics... you get the point) Frame and Word do NOT play well together at all. We're to the
point that we are going to start running a Windows emulator package on our Suns just to get
AWAY from Frame.

I am going to get a hold of the latest Frame release for Windows which came out about a two
weeks or so ago, in one last desperate attempt to see if Frame has learned how to communicate
with Windows correctly, or if it continues to do annoying crud like starting a new copy of Frame every
time you open multiple documents.

NOTE: Not to say that Word is the be-all end-all Framers... Frame is definitely a strong UNIX desktop
publisher. But I've said this on the list before, and I'll say it again: The idea that it is a "cross platform
document solution" has more basis in myth than in reality.

Yours grumply waiting for the day when CORBA interfaces help us solve the nightmare of unopen platforms...

Frame will open *or* import word files with no problem. IMPORTANT: The
key is to have your paragraph styles matching in both packages (and
capitalization counts) -- this will minimize re-tagging.

Step 1. Open/import you doc in frame. (The format may look a little
funky, but don't worry.)

Step 2. Re-import your styles from your MASTER FRAME TEMPLATE. This will
re-format the newly imported text.

All done, with a minimum of hassle!
