According to "A Style Guide for the Computer Industry" by Sun Technical Publications, (ISBN 0-13-455347-0), bit is abbreviated in lowercase, and byte is abbreviated uppercase.
Kilobit is abbreviated Kb.
Kilobyte is abbreviated KB, K, or Kbyte.
