You can read books about creativity by Margaret Boden (a psychologist) or
books about consciousness by Dennett (a philosopher) or Penrose (a
physicist), but in my opinion you're better off reading books by designers:

The Design of Everyday Things by Donald Norman (Doubleday, ISBN 0-385-26774-6)

The Elements of Friendly Software Design by Paul Heckel (Sybex, ISBN
0-89588-768-1)

Tog on Interface by Bruce Tognazzini (Addison-Wesley, ISBN 0-201-60842-1)
