Last year was my first conference and I learned quickly to do as George
F. Hayhoe suggests, to _plan_ what you want to attend and have _multiple_
backups. In addition, here's what I learned as a first timer!

1. After planning the sessions you want to attend read about them in the
Conference Proceedings, if you received a copy, to decide if a
particular session is going to fit your needs.

2. Last year there was such a demand for handouts that some speakers ran
out! Many offered to send a copy if you'd leave your name and address.
Have plenty of business cards available!

3. Get to the room early! Again, last year there were crowds of people,
and sometimes I could decide if it was going to be worth the wait, or if
I should move on to my 2nd and/or 3rd choice! (In many cases a room
monitor would come and tell us where the line would stop -- some rooms
only held a small number of people.)

4. Look for repeats of very popular sessions. ( I only have my one time
experience to go on, but a few of the more popular sessions were repeated
at last year's conf..)

Enjoy ! !
