i think the parent organization attempted to placate the rabid hordes with
a name change (their argument was that "Sambo's" was a combination of the
original owner's names...) but those complaining would have none of it. If
i'm not mistaken, another national chain was actually discriminating against
minorities (only recently getting attention) but the government and friends
went after the easy kill.

so sambo's ended up closing the doors. the place that was sambo's here is
still a restaurant, but it's an "off brand" sort of franchise, if i remember
right. (haven't been in there in years..no particular reason why not other
than just haven't been around that area of town much since Ames screwed up
the Zayre's operations and that store closed...as has the Albertsons, Food
World, Palms 8 theater, Scotty's, the bowling alley, etc. etc. - however
Hooters, a Japanese restaurant, and Walgreens have built new stores in that
area recently and another bank has taken over the old Southeast Bank
building..so the area may come back..)
