The MN Small Business Assistance Office of the MN Dept. of Trade
and Economic Development sponsored a seminar on March 22, 1996, at
the Radison Plaza Hotel, Minneapolis, MN:

From Aristotle to the Internet:
A Basic Legal Primer for Software, On-Line Providers/Users
and Related Technology Companies.

The program:

Introduction - Charles Schaffer, MN Small Business Assistance
Office

Software as Intellectual Property: Basic Overview of Patents
Copyrights, Trademarks, and Trade Secrets - John P. Sumner,
Law Firm of Merchant & Gould (Mpls, MN)

Software Licensing: A Reasonable Allocation of Risks - Michael P.
Cohen, Law Firm of Merchant & Gould (Mpls. MN)

On-Line Advertising and Other Risks and Liability for Users and
Providers in the Modern Digital Information Age - Holly Towle,
Law Firm of Preston, Gates & Ellis (Seattle, WA)

Contracting in a Digital Environment: Future Legal Issues and Risks
Facing the Buyers and Sellers of Computer Software - Raymond Nimmer,
Professor of Law at the University of Houston Law Center.

A few of the areas covered include how laws relating to computer software
and other technology are evolving, how international legal considerations
may affect electronic commerce, and how the 'indecency' provision of the
US Telecommunications Act will be challenged as unconstitutional.

Much of the presentation was on a legal level, but some of the information
should be useful for technical communicators also. An interesting
presentation, particularly if you are a fan of Aristotle.

Until later,

Ron
