The question: Software to manage text and graphic files.
There are many products in the general category of document management.
Saros Corporation (just bought by FileNet) has a suite of tools, PC
Docs, and Xerox all make PC based tools. Documentum and Information
Dimensions are two more companies. All these tools can do full text
search, "quick" searches on meta-data (title, author, date, etc.), check
in and check out, version control, access control and other security,
and most do some level of workflow tracking.
