Greetings to list members,
My office mate is a list member but I'm not. She suggested the list
membership as a good source of information. I would appreciate your
sending responses directly to me: chrket -at- rgalex -dot- com
I have experience in tech writing, desktop publishing, Windows. I
have an upcoming project to write Web pages.
I'd like to hear from people who have both skill sets: tech
writing/desktop publishing and HTML programming.
1 -- Do you have prior programming experience? UNIX? If not, how
hard was it to get up to speed on HTML? Does your job also require
you to write the cgi-bin stuff or do you only do the HTML?
How long does it take to create, say, 50 screens of home page?
2 -- Do you have a "feel" for what percentage of tech writers out
there possess this duplicate skill set? Or, put slightly differently,
how many tech writers do you know and how many of them have both
skills?
3 -- Someone recommended HTML Assistant Pro. Is this program as good
as others out there? (I'm not looking for lengthy
analysis/comparison; just a general idea like, it's in the top 20% -
it's in the top 50% - it's buggy etc.)
4 -- Please disregard this question if you are at all uncomfortable
answering the last part of it. What geographical area do you work in,
and what's a salary range for a tech writer with HTML skills?
