I think you need to define what "technical marketing communications" is.
In some high tech companies, this refers to advertising people who develop
brochures and organize trade show booths; in other companies, it refers to
sales training and presentation development people who educate the customers
and the field salespersons.

Depending on how a company views the mission of the group will decide the
minimum entry qualifications and experience required. In addition, such
departments seem to get passed around. Sometimes, they are part of sales
and marketing; sometimes they are part of customer service or customer
training/documentation. Depending on which division of the business is
the controlling entity will decide what types of background they prefer
and how much money is available for talent, tools and travel (the three
elements that make all the difference in the job description).

I've seen some companies where TMC's are always on the road and they
need exceptional presentation skills, as well as a pleasing appearance.
I've seen other companies where TMC's never leave their cubicles and
they simply produce slides for product line managers and the sales force.
I've seen some who were also covering press releases, corporate flyers
and newsletters, and internal business communications about the market.

What do "YOU" think of when you envision "technical marketing communications?"
