Greetings,
We are currently developing a new user's reference manual for one of
our products. Our method for capturing screens to place in the manuals could
be improved upon. I was wondering I could get some information from some of
you on your method of "capturing screens" to place in your paper manuals.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I work in FrameMaker and generally draw the screens with the FM tools. Although
this is a bit time consuming, it is not so much as you would think since most
screens of a program are similar and it is easy to just copy and modify. it
also makes it easy to revise the drawing when the programmers make last minute
changes to the screens.
However, for those who eschew the drawing tools, try Hijaak Pro (Now Graphics
Suite) priced around $99. It is an excellent screen capture tool. I had to
capture some screens from a Motif (UNIX) windows system which used pastel
colors and Hijaak Pro was the only solution because I could edit the bitmap
easily.
If you are under some budget restraint, try Grabbit Pro 3.1. It is a shareware
product for about $40 and is available from many BBS systems or the Simtel
Respository. Look for the filename grabit31.zip
Feel free to e-mail me for more information.
