Keith made some excellent points with respect to GPA on a resume. I don't
put it on mine, partly because it's been a while since I graduated!

But like any specific type of writing, resume writing is a skill that
must be honed. I was in the habit of writing my own resumes for years and
had fair success getting whatever job I wanted. When I decided to become
a tech writer, I sent out my "home-made" resume for a year without
getting a single interview (although one man called to compliment me on
my cover letter!). I finally broke down and went to a professional
service and the very first company that received my new resume called me
FIRST (out of over 600 candidates). I got the job, too!

Even now, with years of experience as a tech writer, I understand the
value of having someone who specializes in resumes to write mine. After
all, the resume specialist wouldn't necessarily have the skills required
to write good hardware and software documentation.
