"Digest" doesn't mean that you get less e-mail; it only means that you
get one day's worth of messages in one chunk. Some people find this
better; I would find it infinitely worse, since I tend to save a lot
of the messages. You should look into filtering your mail--that way,
all the techwr-l mail can go in a separate folder rather than
cluttering up your mailbox. (The method varies from site to site, so
you should check your site. If you use UNIX, check out 'man filter'.
