asks
Is there an equivalent program?
Preferably it should be able to work with documents created by other
graphics programs.

I would suggest looking into Macromedia's Freehand. I am not sure if
they make a MAC version, but when Aldus owned Freehand there
was a Mac version. This program works very well with PageMaker. I
have used both Corel and Freehand, and I feel that speaking purely of
design and illustration, Freehand is the greatest. Corel comes with
many other extensions.
