I deal with work orders from the government to a contractor. If you're
dealing with the government, ask for and read 1) Section C of the
contract, 2) the delivery order (DO)/statement of work (SOW) (same
thing) and applicable Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs) and 3)
the technical direction letter (TDL). That way you get the total
picture of what the deliverable is, the format and how it is to be
delivered. If you're confused, ask questions before getting in too far
or insist on presenting drafts and/or having walkthroughs.
