Hal Snyder mentioned that the Chicago Manual of Style was of little
help in hyphenation/compound words.

The Chicago Manual of Style, 13th ed., contains a six-page table
of suggested hyphenation. Was this table dropped from the 14th
ed.? See pages 176-181 of that earlier edition. It was the most extensive
reference on that arbitrary topic that I'd been able to find.

Sounds like another argument for rejecting new editions in favor of
the old...
