The Willamette Valley Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication
announces a call for papers for its regional conference to be held in
Portland, Oregon on October 19-21, 1995. The conference theme is Lifelong
Learning. Call or write for a conference proposal brochure.

Individuals may propose a 20-minute presentation of a paper or 1.5 hour
workshop. Proposals also are welcome for participation in a progression
(20-minute round-table discussion) or panel discussion.

Papers should address one of the following topics:
* Career enhancement/educational opportunities.
* Making the move from traditional print documentation to other media.
* Creating documents with little or no text.
* Managing documentation projects or departments for career enrichment.
* Finding, evaluating and using communication tools.
* Using icons, color and graphics effectively.
* Understanding and meeting the needs of users.
* Testing documents to ensure quality.
* Preparing documents for different markets.

Participation in this event encourages the sharing of ideas among
professional communicators, as well as provides an opportunity for presenters
to gain professional recognition within the industry.

A conference proposal form must be completed and submitted with a 150-word
abstract of a paper. The deadline for proposals is June 19, 1995.

The Society for Technical Communication is a national non-profit organization
supporting the professional interests and advancement of technical and
business communicators. Members include technical and business writers,
graphic illustrators and designers, publications managers, educators and
other communications professionals.
