I once kept offices in the heart of downtown Washington, DC. My problems
with it were constantly increasing rent costs, costly parking fees, and
the lack of heat or air conditioning on weekends, when a harried freelance
writer must often work. I solved the problem by moving my office to my
home, somewhat hesitantly because I thought it might hurt my image with
some of my important business clients, but they all understood the wisdom
of reducing my overhead. That was not recent--it has been a few years
ago--but many small businesses, such as writing and related services, can
be run from one's home, even from an apartment.
