This is a part of someone's post--
I will tell you now that as a new business I don't have
the money to buy ads in Technical Communications, and I know
not all technical writers are members. And I am certainly not
going to sit around making phone calls to everyone: I hate
telemarketing.

To which John Gear replied--
Why? Because it's invasive and turns the device *you* pay for
into a conduit for people to push their wares at you?????????
Sounds just like junk e-mail to me.
-------------
From reading all this, I knew that I had experienced a similar
"invasive" experience before, but I couldn't quite put my finger
on it. It just now came to me:

Have you ever spent your hard-earned money to attend a seminar
which you hoped would improve your knowledge, skills, or
abilities, only to have to sit through some sales pitch
(sometimes two in one day) about additional "supporting
materials" that the seminar vendor offers?

Personally, I resent paying $100 or more for a 6-hour seminar,
and then have the presenter *waste* almost a full hour of that
short time pitching his wares. It makes me feel cheated.
