The Handbook of Technical Writing (Brusaw, Alred, Oliu) also states
that a.m. and p.m. are the correct abbreviations.

According to the UP Style Guide, Gregg Reference Manual, The Webster Style
Guide, and the original latin, which were not capitallized. Also, be sure to
include the periods after the letters. Hope this helps.
