Bob Morrisette noted that "go" is becoming a replacement word for "said," and
wondered if it was California only.

I've noticed it, but what seems to be more common on the east coast is the
usage of "like" for "said."

So, I'm at the bank, and I'm, like, "Are you gonna cash this check or what?"
And the teller looks at me, and she's like "You don't have proper ID, and
you don't even have an account here."
