Chad -- Are you a gambling man??? I would be willing to bet that the
glossary would require less "real estate" in the document than definitions
in the margins.

Also, it would be much easier for the reader to look in one place (the
glossary) than to look in two places (the index and the page with the
definition). So, if you want to do your readers a real service, include
an index and a glossary. And then ... if you want to include definitions
in the margin as well, that's okay, too.
