To add a tad to the STC job hotline information:

There are two types of job hotlines--the international one accessible over a
modem from the STC office, and local ones, usually phone based, that are manned
or womanned by overworked volunteers.

Not every chapter has a local job hotline. However, most chapters try to do
something about helping their members find jobs, offering networking and job
announcements at meetings, for instance, or listing jobs in their newsletters.

I have never heard of anyone charging members for job placements. However,
sometimes hotlines charge recruiters to place ads on the hotlines to help pay
for the answering machine and phone bills.
