The upper limit is around 680Mb. Some hold more than others because of a
better manufacturing process, not because of data compression or media
density. A good analogy is computer printers. A 9-pin dot matrix won't
print clearly below 6 point but a 300 dpi laser will, although the storage
capacity of the paper is the same in both cases.
Sony and Denon are both currently working on new technology which may
raise the ante to 2 (j)gigs. They're experimenting with shorter-
wave-length lasers to increase media density: A sharp pencil can write
more densly than a dull one.
