I've been noticing that documents in a variety of computer
materials are omitting the double quotation marks from
references to titles chapters or headings. For example, see
Chapter 2, Using the Basic Commands. No double quotation
marks on that.
Is this a new usage that is slowly creeping in, or is there
an influential style guide somewhere out there that
stipulates this--or am I just way behind the times?
I'd appreciate your observations. BTW, I did notice in
publications by Visual Edge that the style was to use a
contrastive font for the chapter or heading titles (for
example, a sans serif font as opposed to a serif font in he
running text), but no quot. marks.
