A. Bernstein requested info about a notebook computer
suitable for wordprocessing, capable of being hooked up
to a monitor at home.
You didn't specify whether you prefer DOS, Windows or
Macintosh system and software, but you'll guess my
preference: if you're flexible, try out the new
Powerbook Duos from Apple: the Duo 250 or the 280.
Both weigh in under 4 lbs and have active-matrix
displays. The 250 is the greyscale version, while
the 280 is full colour. Reviews on the products
have been very favourable. The great feature of the
Duo line is that they have a docking station at
home which enables you to slide in the unit and
instantly connect to all peripherals such as a
monitor, printer, full size keyboard, etc.
Of course, the downside is you have to purchase
all these little extras separately.
As far as word processing and editing, having used
both Windows and Macintosh, I feel Windows products
are still playing catch-up with the Mac programs
already out there.
