Jamie,
I'll post several ways to contact the Society for Technical Communication.
By mail:
Society for Technical Communication
901 N. Stuart St., Suite 904
Arlington, VA 22203-1854
By phone:
(703) 522-4114
By Fax:
(703) 522-2075
By BBS:

I recommed initially contacting the Bulletin Board System (BBS).
The BBS offers a list of STC Chapters so that you can identify the
chapter nearest you. The BBS also offers a downloadable copy of
the membership application.
There are a number of bulletins posted on the BBS that explain
some of the functions and benefits of STC and membership in the
Society.
Concerning training, as Joan Miles stated, there is no quick and
intensive training course available. There are a number of
seminars that provide some information, but not the basics. For
basic information and skills development, contact your local
institution(s) of higher learning.
If you contact the STC BBS, you will find a downloadable list of
institutions that offer degree programs in Technical Writing.
P.S. One last word about the STC BBS. After you connect to it,
review the bulletins. You won't be able to download any
files for 24 hours after initial contact. If, after reviewing
the bulletins, you decide membership in STC is for you,
leave a message to the BBS SYSOP to that effect and
ask for any additional help STC can provide via the BBS.
If I can be of any further assistance, don't hesitate to post
a message or message me directly. Good luck and welcome to
the profession.
