I stopped my membership after my employer stopped paying for it, a couple of years before I was laid off (I took that as an omen, and I was right).

If STC knew they were doing this, they should have suspended membership
applications a while ago, even if under the guise of "processing issues."

While I will miss STC, that last action leaves a very bad taste as their
parting gesture.
