Hello All,

to my mind several points have been raised in this discussion that are crucial in our profession, also regarding the use of a common term:
* Be consistent. Even if you should use it not quite correctly as far as spelling goes, at least do it the same way all the time.
* The style guide you use should fit your domain: If you work in a place where cables and their plugs are manufactured and sold, some styles may differ from those who work where these are mentioned only occasionally.
* Be precise: My understanding of 'Ethernet' is exactly this: It actually describes an interface in the shape of a plug and is a standard. As someone mentioned so well, there are several types of cable associated with it. So, make sure you describe precisely what you mean. You may even want to use the official name for the plug instead, depending on the audience.
* Use it correctly, whenever possible: Since it was a name for the standard as well as the plug and cable type(s), I would more conservatively stick with the original spelling, capital letter: 'Ethernet'.

Happy writing to all.

Best regards
Nina

Ethernet. It's a proper noun, I think.

Hi Everyone,

Creating some new doc and going through some old doc. Old doc has both
"Ethernet" and "ethernet" sprinkled throughout many pages. Our sister
company in Denmark has the same thing.

Thoughts? Some minor research on my side seems vague.

Thanks!
