From page 997 of the Microsoft Writing Style Guide pdf I just downloaded,
"Apply the same sentence structures to similar information. For example, use prepositional phrases
consistently in procedures to help customers navigate menus and dialog boxes. And use the same syntax for
cross-references and other common content elements."

Page 470 offers this,
"Don't use as a noun to refer to cross-references to other pages or to hyperlinks.
Don't use as a verb to refer to going from one link to another. Use go to instead."

References are preceded by "See also" throughout the document.

<nod> I've had the link to their online version, but so far have not
managed to find anything in it addressing the preferred way of referring to
information located elsewhere. Although there are plenty of examples on
every page showing the use of "For more information about <subject>, see
<topic>." That's how I used to word that sort of thing, then it got beaten
out of me at one of my prior jobs where the house style was "See <topic>
for more information."
