Imagine a rectangle in an Illustrator file.

It has a triangle outline in its lower left corner and a solid black circle
in its upper left corner.

Maintaining the rectangle as a transparent boundary, I want to export the
triangle as a separate graphic image. I then want to do the same with the
circle, again maintaining the rectangle as a transparent boundary.

After being exported, the two independent graphic files need to be
superimposed (overlaid) on one another, such that their rectangular
boundaries match up.

Considering the need for the rectangular backgrounds to remain transparent,
what type of graphic file would best lend itself to this situation? Are
their special settings I need to considering during export?

Thanks
