I was on a CAISO contract assignment in Folsom. It was a fustercluck. And
my cubicle was half the size it was at HP in Roseville. Our group manager
couldn't get any traction with the big-guy manager in charge of a
multi-million dollar systems upgrade, so there we sat...for months on end.

The "fish bowl" was very interesting to see in operation. At the same time
it was disconcerting, in that it was plain that our grid is held together
with chewing gum, bailing wire, and duct tape. That we even had power (most
of the time) in CA was miraculous. (The same is true everywhere.)

Thankfully I was able to get admin privileges to my own box so I could
install whatever software I wanted for my amusement (WinBatch). I wrote a
lot of string manipulation routines to do my own hobbyist work. And I read
a lot of web content.

Ultimately newly-minted Accenture draftees came in with their clipboards.
One day our departmental manager got a phone call and was told to not come
in. They packed up his cube contents and shipped them to him. We knew our
turn was coming, so I cleared my cube myself. After a few more weeks of
desperately trying to entertain myself, my call came on a Sunday morning.
