Dunno why you need a mixer.

My Shure Beta 58A mic connects to my Shure X2u, which in turn connects to
my USB port. My over-the-ears Sennheiser headset (HD 280 Pro) connects
directly to the X2u for monitoring.

For any audio editing, compression, etc., I use the free Audacity
application. It works very, very well.

I've been doing my recording in my very quiet sound boothâa Ford Explorer.
But I'm soon to purchase a low-cost reflection filter (like this:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1274992-REG/marantz_professional_sound_shield_compact_vocal_reflection_compact_filter.html)
so I can record at my desk and eliminate audio reflections bouncing off the
wall.
