Dunno why you need a mixer.
My Shure Beta 58A mic connects to my Shure X2u, which in turn connects to
my USB port. My over-the-ears Sennheiser headset (HD 280 Pro) connects
directly to the X2u for monitoring.
For any audio editing, compression, etc., I use the free Audacity
application. It works very, very well.
