Hi Gene,

Thanks for replying. I am thinking this would be more of a technical/manager person. Not thinking of doing anything "fancy" right now, although I have heard of T-letters gaining some traction and acceptance. 

That's why I'm planning to talk to this person on the phone, to see how they're thinking and feeling regarding jobs. If I need to create one than one resume, I will.

A lot depends on who the intended readers are. "New age" designs like T-letters and "skills-based" resumes can be useful for "creative" 
job-seekers, such as artists and marketers, but when engineering and other "techie" hiring managers look at them, their first impressions are usually that the applicant is trying to mask a lack of applicable experience.

If the person you're trying to help is looking at the possibility of applying for more than one type of job, you probably want to produce more than one type of resume.
