I'm not sure if this will help, but if you have the Comments sidebar open,
there is a 3-dot icon for Options. I opened Commenting Preferences and
played with some settings:
* Print notes and pop-ups
* Show lines connecting comment markups to their pop-ups on mouse rollover
* Automatically open comment pop-upus for comments other than notes
* Allow nested reply to sticky notes
When partnered with the Print > Document and Markup setting, all of these
show the post-it note style comments pointing to the reference text. This
is an addition to the explicit drawing tool markup your client already
seems comfortable enough to use. You can also print out a list of comments
for you to use in your edits.
Don't know if it will work, but maybe some combination of tools can placate
your client and alleviate your stress. After all, it's supposed to be the
most wonderful time of the year!
