Hi Laura,

I live on a dead-end dirt road in Vermont, and I've been telecommuting for
over 5 years - first for HP in NH and CA and now for a software company in
NYC. In both cases I spent some time working in the office for several
months to get to know the people on the tech comm team as well as the
product teams I support. Since then I go into the office three or four
times a year.

Since we are in an agile environment we keep in close touch as a matter of
course with daily scrums, and all the requisite planning and grooming
meetings. We use video chats, IMs, and emails to make sure we're working
together efficiently. About the only things I miss are the non-work things
like who had a baby or got married and such. I like to say that I can do
anything remotely except go look over someone;s shoulder at their desk, but
if it's really necessary I can get someone to do it for me.

My 2 cents,

JG
