An alternate way of implementing this is the magnifying loupe effect:

http://www.premiumpixels.com/freebies/loupe-screenshot-magnifying-thingy/
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/create-simple-zoomed-effect-screenshots-gimp/

This way, you can have the full screenshot, and overlay it with zoomed
in versions of the areas of the screen that are important, or that you
want to draw attention to. This gives the necessary context of location
(where on the screen/in the screenshot they're looking at) and necessary
information (large enough to be readable or otherwise clearly visible).

Hope this helps,

Dossy
