The Link field can be set up to automatically update when the document opens, so if you use that maybe you can get away without using the macro. But they have problems if the source file you pull from is a Word document. Link fields work much better with Excel source files.

Do the update failures occur in any discernible pattern? Do they happen only after info in a source file has been changed?

Do the update failures throw any error messages, or do you just not get the latest info in the source files?

Are you absolutely certain that the bookmarks in the source files are set up correctly?

Are you absolutely certain that when the bookmarked content is changed, the change does not accidentally ruin the bookmarks?

Do the update failures happen for only one person or a few people? Since the source files are in SharePoint, I have to wonder if the problem is the person running the update macro doesn't have the necessary permissions in SharePoint.

Hi, Keith,
So far, it is just me running the macro. I can see it going through the motions.
I have it writing the file names to a text box on a user form, so I can see progress.
Not all the files are revised when we run it. That's part of the purpose of this - to be able to update portions of it, run those portions through the review process, then update the main doc with those portions.
What we notice is - the file isn't updated with the new content. When I plant the cursor in that portion of the main file and press F9, it updates fine.
The new content is then available in the main file.

I ran some experiments using the link field. Not suitable at all. Only shows the first page of the linked file, then you can double click on that page and it opens in a new window. Not at all what we want. Nice try, no cigar.

So- the includetext fields update fine with F9, but not necessarily with the VBA command. Bother.
I did include a "doevents" instruction in the loop, to let things catch up - but that doesn't seem to be enough.

Any other ideas?

Regards
Jay
