The Link field can be set up to automatically update when the document opens, so if you use that maybe you can get away without using the macro. But they have problems if the source file you pull from is a Word document. Link fields work much better with Excel source files.

Do the update failures occur in any discernible pattern? Do they happen only after info in a source file has been changed?

Do the update failures throw any error messages, or do you just not get the latest info in the source files?
Are you absolutely certain that the bookmarks in the source files are set up correctly?

Are you absolutely certain that when the bookmarked content is changed, the change does not accidentally ruin the bookmarks?
Do the update failures happen for only one person or a few people? Since the source files are in SharePoint, I have to wonder if the problem is the person running the update macro doesn't have the necessary permissions in SharePoint.

At least one article on MS Support suggests using the {link} field
instead of includetext for informtion that's likely to change.

Anyone know of the pros and cons?

Thanks
