I seem to remember someone in our tech writing department at Prime Computer, a very long time ago, suggesting that word as a job title, but very definitely tongue in cheek. Nobody should ever have to explain to his friends, relatives or pastor what a documentarian does.

Hey, it could be worse. I once met someone whose job title was 'screw inspector'. I think he inspected the $100,000 close-tolerance screws that are used in plastics injection mold pumps. Somehow he never got a chance to give the actual explanation, though.
