When I first took the role of the tech. doc. department manager (two days
ago),
Congratulations!
I got rid of weekly reports. So, nobody is wasting time on them.
Make sure that you are still completing a weekly report of what your team is doing.
The
people were happy. Is there anything else that I should consider to make
them happier?
It isn't your job to make them happy; it is your job to make sure they have what they need to do their job and that the environment lets them complete their job. Learn what each person on your team wants to do and balance that with what needs to be done. Protect your team from "predators" who will try to bypass you to get extra work from your team or to micromanage and harass your team behind your back. Define and respectfully enforce boundaries wherever they need to be.
