"Print" can be to the screen, to a file, to a printer, or to another format or device.
Or is nothing actually being printed? Does the action *send* or *output* content to the recorder?
I think it depends on whether data or an image is being sent.
Coming in late here, reading only the tail end of the discussion...
Except for "print to file" where a file in the printer's format is created, I'd vote for 'export' rather than 'print'. Of course the decision is often already in concrete: "I know that you say it sounds funny to say 'Read the datas from the storage filer filter onto the printer assembly memory,' but that's the words the software presents. It's nothing you or I can change."
