I too was impressed with Flare when I looked at it, but found the XHTML
paradigm insufficient for some kinds of documentation. Flare would be great
if it let you use custom schemas for authoring.

I'm curious Robert about your response. Why do you feel that FrameMaker and
WebWorks are a better choice for you.

I needed about a good month of working with Flare (to understand its
processes and logic) but once I became familiar with Flare, I decided that I
could never go back to FrameMaker. It was a huge risk but it is paying off
for me now but I also had the advantage of starting from zero; no legacy of
FM documents to consider.

I am asking because as a former FrameMaker trainer, I was up against a bit
of flak with my FrameMaker colleagues when I announced my decision to
abandon FM and I feel to a lot of people misunderstand the shear power of
the Flare tool.

It is not my intention to get into a FM vs Flare thing... as long as allows
you to do your job effectively, it doesn't matter what you use. :-)
