The first thing to try in Win 7 is the Program Compatibility troubleshooter. One of the XP compatibility options may be all you need. If that doesn't work, and if IT is installing Win 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate, you can install Windows Virtual PC (free) and run Windows XP Mode (free) in it. It's a fully-functional version of the XP OS. You can switch to it from your Win 7 desktop (it's like running Remote Desktop Connection, but the remote system is on the same physical hardware), but you don't have to in order to run a program. When you install a program in the Windows XP Mode VM, it's also available in the Win 7 program list, and you can open it directly from Win 7.

In Win 7's Help and Support, search for "windows xp mode." If you're not comfortable with the notes, warnings, and installation instructions, you may want to ask IT to set this up for you.
