Is the difference in the line spacing? I noticed a change in the line spacing in a Word 2003 document when I saved is as a Word 2010 document. The document was using Normal style and manual formatting, not named styles.

Yes, the sole difference seems to be the line spacing. And if I look at a paragraph style's info, it appears consistent, all the way to the Reveal Formatting details. But never-the-less, visually the paragraph spacing is different (more), and not as many paras fit on a page.

I did look at the Normal styles in the two docs (even though as far as I can tell no styles are based on Normal because I deliberately created a custom BodyText.0 style that's based on "no style"), and they seem the same.

I do think perhaps the problem is buried deeply somewhere in the bullet list styles because it's the bullet styles that seem to be different, but not the regular text paragraphs.

A good lead, and I'll look into that more.
