One of these things is not like the others.
'Towards' is simply a variant of 'toward', used especially in UK English. It has just as long a pedigree, and is just as correct (or not, depending on your style guide). It is, I believe, an immutable rule that any post or email mocking someone else's errors must contain at least one of your own? :)
