Oh, I'm sorry - wasn't trying to nail you to the wall, I was just offering
my perspective based on how I interpreted your post.

Sometimes just saying you have a personal matter to attend to is enough -
and you don't need to say what it is. I just wanted to say that making up a
cover story such as physical therapy or dentist, isn't honest (unless
you're going to squeeze that in on the way home). There's always the option
of making sure your time is made up - if your leaving an hour early, you
could come in early or eat lunch while working. That way, nobody can accuse
you of using company time to conduct your job search. I've often found
people are willing to interview after hours as well - they know you're
working and will appreciate that you're doing this on your own time.

And I guess if you can't be honest when people ask about the change in
behaviour, be vague :)
